128 points last week massively exceeded my Bench Boost expectations, especially considering my triple Coventry combined for just 5 points. Now, as planned in pre-season, it’s time for the Gameweek 3 Free Hit.
My approach is: Maximise Man City and Brentford while temporarily sidelining the 5 Arsenal and Chelsea players I own.
Brentford’s 39% clean-sheet chance is surprisingly higher than Arsenal’s (36%), which has pushed me towards the double-up of Ajer and Kelleher. Both are below 10% ownership too, making them nice differentials.
Man City lead the clean-sheet projections at 48% and also have a huge 2.92 xG projection. Triple City is therefore a must for me, with Nico O’Reilly, Haaland and Foden. I’d prefer Cherki over Foden, but I’m £0.1m short in this draft.
There’s obviously some rotation risk here, but for a one-week punt I’m happy to gamble on Foden. Nico O’Reilly also looks likely to feature, either at left-back if Gvardiol misses out or potentially in midfield.
Elsewhere, I’m sticking fairly closely to the highest projected players. Saka is one I think is being overlooked. Chelsea is a tough fixture, but Arsenal still have the third-highest xG projection of the week at 1.92.
I also considered Suzuki over Kelleher, which would allow Ajer to become Collins, but I’m trusting Brentford’s stronger clean-sheet numbers.
The draft is 95% locked. My only real decision is Foden or Cherki, although getting Cherki would mean losing Saka for Gibbs-White. If you can afford both Cherki and Saka, that would be my preferred route.
Good luck, everyone! 🍀⚽
